Spanning nearly 140 years, Crocker Art Museum is the longest continuously-operating art museum in the western USA. Housed in a beautiful Italianate mansion since 1872, the museum is currently in the process of adding a brand new 125,000-square-foot building to continue its massive collection (currently over 14,000 works), and feature bigger and even more exciting traveling exhibits. This new building is set to open in October, 2010. The old building of the museum has been beautifully well-kept and restored over the years, becoming a landmark, marked by stunning architectural detail and surrounded by lush gardens.
